Cyclamens: care and reproduction

cyclamens

Women who are fond of growing flowers tend to grow not only traditional indoor geraniums, begonias and others, but also such unusual, and rather greenhouse flowers as cyclamens , which means "circle".

In this flower, leaves, tubers, and flowers have rounded shapes, which is why this flower captivates. Cyclamens are found mainly in mountainous areas. For growing at home, Persian and European cyclamen are most suitable, requiring different care and maintenance.

Persian cyclamen

unique in its coloration: the leaves have silvery stains located on the lines of the veins, and the flowers with characteristic pointed petals can be the brightest shades from white to maroon.

The flowering period begins in October, it is at this time that it is recommended to buy a flower. When purchasing cyclamen, be aware that he does not like high temperatures. The most for him is up to fourteen degrees of heat. If it is higher, it will quickly wither, and you will wonder what the reason is. At the same time, he needs a bright room at the time of flowering, but cannot be placed under direct sunlight.

When caring for cyclamen, you should keep in mind that you need to carefully monitor the ground: do not allow it to dry out, but also do not over-irrigate (for this, be sure to check for a drainage layer in the pot). And in no case should you water under the root, in order to avoid the process of decay.

As soon as the flowering period ends (this is already closer to late spring), rest begins for the plant and for this time it needs to be moved to a cool place without an abundance of light. As soon as you notice that new leaves have begun to appear, it's time to transplant the flower. For this process, purchase land specially prepared for cyclamen. And keep in mind that a significant part of the tuber should be on the surface when transferred to a new pot.

If for some other flowers the cleansing of root tubers from the previous earth is required, then in the case of cyclamen, the opposite is true: you need to plant it together with a soil clod. For the flowering period, fertilize the soil of the plant a couple of times a month. But be careful, as an overdose of especially nitrogen increases the sensitivity of the flower to infections.

Yes, cyclamens are whimsical flowers, but your efforts will be worth it to enjoy the chic flowers later.

European cyclamen

differs in that the reproduction of this plant can be carried out not only by seeds, which is typical for Persian, but also by tubers, since “daughters” gradually grow in a pot.

It has interesting flowers of a lilac or lilac hue, from which a pleasant aroma also emanates. Unlike the first species, European cyclamen is more unpretentious and blooms at other times, from spring to autumn.

As for the conditions of its maintenance, in winter it loves light and rare watering, in summer - shade, fresh air and a sufficient amount of moisture.
Favorable time for transplantation is the end of March. Houseplant Care
