Ficus and its care at home

ficus

refers to subtropical plants. There are about 800 species of ficus trees and shrubs. The most common species for growing indoors is Benjamin's ficus, which belongs to the tree-like ficus, which has dark green leaves of an oval, slightly pointed shape.

There are also ficuses: dwarf, figs, ivy-like, rubber-nosed, fig tree (with large and rough leaves), Ficus Bengal has velvety leaves, Ficus Ali has spear-shaped leaves. Despite their southern origin, ficuses, in principle, can grow in the shade even at a temperature of 12 degrees in winter, but they still prefer bright and warm places. A characteristic feature: if the species you have chosen has variegated or light leaves, then it needs a bright room.

Ficuses love good watering, especially in summer. In the hot season, they are watered every other day, combined with spraying the leaves. At the same time, you need to make sure that the roots do not crawl out of the holes in the bottom and that the water does not stand in the pan, otherwise rotting of the roots is guaranteed. But be careful: cold and drafts are the enemies of the ficus. If you notice that he is shedding leaves, it means that he is cold or he does not have enough light. Drooping leaves indicate a glut of moisture. If the leaves wrinkle - this is the result of exposure to the open sun + dry air = burn.

Palm fertilizers are used as top dressing about once every two weeks during the period of active growth. You can use natural fertilizers for this purpose, for example, mullein.

Some ficuses can be grown hydroponically, or in ordinary soil, consisting of leafy, soddy soil, peat and sand. If you do not want the ficus to grow, it is better to plant it in a cramped pot. A transplant of adults is generally not recommended. You can still young once every two years.

Please note that ficuses painfully endure a change of habitat, so immediately determine the part of the room where your green friend will settle for a long time.
