Fertilizers for indoor plants

Their general condition will depend on how well the care of indoor plants is organized: the presence or absence of diseases, normal growth, the brightness of greenery, and so on. When choosing fertilizers for indoor plants, you need to give preference to special dressings. Please note that the fertilizers that you use in the garden are not at all appropriate for feeding indoor flowers and will even be harmful.

Indoor plants are fed with minerals from the soil through the root system. So they usually fertilize the soil, but sometimes top dressing is carried out through the leaves. Below we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the main components that houseplants need.

Nitrogen . Its deficiency affects the fact that the leaves become pale and become small. With its shortage, the plants are fed with nitrogen-containing fertilizers, such as ammonium sulfate or organic - in the form of manure.

Calcium , so necessary primarily for cacti, is of great importance for the root system. Its lack leads to a slowdown in root growth, which certainly affects the appearance of the plant: young foliage dies off.

Potassium is a purely floral element, if it is low, then flowering is either completely absent, or too small flowers appear. If there is not enough potassium and phosphorus, yellowing is characteristic (which starts from the very edges), and then the leaves fall off.

Phosphorus affects the formation of new leaves. If you notice that the foliage has become dark green, and shoots and roots grow very slowly, it means that there is not enough phosphorus.

Iron plays an important role in the formation of chlorophyll. If this element is not enough, then the leaves lose their color, turn yellow. Scientifically, this phenomenon is called chlorosis.

The main of the above are nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, which come from the soil. The lack of others is felt less due to the fact that they are needed in microscopic doses. If the soil is not fertilized, then the growth of plants slows down, and the foliage becomes smaller, and in this case they are more susceptible to various kinds of diseases. But the deficit of certain elements according to their main features should be determined in the season of active growth, but not in the fall.

Types of fertilizers for indoor plants

Liquid fertilizers are provided for indoor plants, but the concentration of nutrients in them is too high, so you need to dilute with water. There are organic fertilizers (based on components of natural origin). They gently act on the root system, at the same time they are well balanced. But they have bad odors.

Mineral compositions of fertilizers are classified as chemical. Unlike organics, they act quickly and purposefully. Virtually odorless. But if the dosage is not observed, it can cause burns.

Complex fertilizers (having several substances in their composition) are usually ready for use. But you need to follow the dosage. Usually this information is on the label.

Top dressing in tablet form also has a place to be, but its lack of local action, and you need to fertilize the entire soil.

But the method of exposure through the leaves is carried out through soluble fertilizers. This is convenient for processing a large number of plants, but the disadvantage is that for single flowers it will be difficult for you to comply with the dosage, since you will need to breed it yourself.
