The second name of geranium is pelargonium. Despite the seeming simplicity of the plant, South Africa is considered its homeland. Many housewives like it because it blooms almost all year round and does not require special care. Indoor geranium is a shrub plant up to 60 cm high, there are also herbaceous ones (there are many species), their main difference from other flowers is their characteristic smell. In non-flowering pelargonium, it is more pronounced, while flowering varieties (royal) attract attention mainly with flowers.
Not many people know that geranium not only smells, but releases bactericidal substances into the air that disinfect the atmosphere in your room. It also has a calming effect and generally has a beneficial effect on a person.
This plant feels comfortable at moderate temperatures, but not very hot and not very cold, although in winter it can withstand eight degrees.
It should be watered in sufficient volume at the first sign of dryness of the soil, it is not necessary to spray. Indoor geranium is so hardy that it can even be in the direct rays of the sun, but not the burning summer heat, it loves fresh air very much, so it can be taken out to the balcony where it will grow with pleasure. Observe the condition of the leaves of the plant and you can understand if it has enough moisture: if there is a lack of moisture, the leaves turn yellow, if they are oversaturated, they become lethargic. If your pelargonium does not have enough light, then it will shed its lower leaves.
Geranium propagation
Propagated mainly by cuttings. A characteristic feature is that after cutting the cutting, it is immediately planted in the pot in which it will then grow. The cuttings are taken from the top or from the side and dried a little before planting, sprinkling the cut with charcoal powder. The optimal size of the cutting is up to seven cm. Traditionally, they are propagated in the spring.
The earth is quite suitable garden with the addition of sand. But the choice of the pot should not be the maximum, but, on the contrary, the minimum, then it will bloom well.
