Pillow. How to choose

The choice of a pillow for yourself and your household should be taken with full responsibility, because the pillow will either contribute to a good, wholesome sleep, or will contribute to the development of various, not very pleasant and even harmful phenomena.

Too high a pillow often contributes to the appearance of a double chin , moreover, if the pillow does not allow your neck to relax due to incorrect head position, the load on the cervical vertebrae leads to their curvature with all the ensuing consequences, such as headaches. In addition, the unnatural position of the neck causes respiratory failure.

The purpose of a proper pillow is to provide head support so that your shoulder does not lie on the cushion with your head, but just touches its edge.

In order not to make a mistake with the choice of a pillow for yourself and for your loved one, evaluate your current bedding. There is nothing surprising in the fact that in the morning you get up with a “broken” head. The day has not yet begun, and you already feel weak, and your pillow could well be the reason for this.

A man, as a rule, needs a roller under the head of a larger size, since he has broad shoulders. If you have two identical pillows for two, this is wrong, maybe they are selected solely according to their external characteristics and you quite like them, but without taking into account physiology. Your body will tell you if something is wrong. For example, in the morning the neck hurts - the pillow is too low, if in the evening the hand itself reaches under the head - there is not enough height. You can't fall asleep for a long time - this high pillow does not let you relax. The standard height is about ten to fourteen centimeters. For those who like to sleep on their backs, lower pillows of medium firmness are suitable, for those who rest on their stomachs - soft, downy ones.

Orthopedic pillows have become common now, they are unconventional in that they have a bulge at the edges (and a recess for the head in the middle), for the convenience of the neck - this is the best option, but you need to get used to it.

What filler should be in the pillow

The down and feathers of waterfowl (geese, ducks) are traditional fillers that we are used to (by the way, it is harmful to use chicken feathers for pillows). When buying, also make sure that the covers are of good quality so that your fluff does not fly all over the room later. The dense canvas of the cover also prevents the penetration of dust mites. As a rule, factory-made pillows of imported manufacturers meet these requirements and serve the owner from three to five years. There is a need for periodic washing, but they deteriorate from this, it is better to take them to special pillow dry cleaners.

Down and feathers are preferred over synthetic fills as they are breathable, have the ability to hold and restore their shape, are resilient, but are not suitable for people with allergies. Therefore, allergy sufferers prefer pillows filled with, for example, synthetic winterizer or holofiber. They are much cheaper than down, anti-allergic, but they lose their shape faster (the volume becomes heterogeneous) and they need to be changed more often.

And besides the above, there are also pillows with vegetable fillers, for example, buckwheat husks, which have a calming, massaging effect. From sheep's wool are shown to those who have pain in muscles and joints. Orthopedic ones are also made of latex, they are very durable.

Which pillow is right for you, decide for yourself. The main thing is that its pluses are pluses for your health.
