How to drive in winter

Winter is a serious testing stage, especially for female motorists who are just gaining experience. For them, the question “how to drive in winter” is connected with several points at once.

How to drive in winter

  • Firstly , it is important to change the car into winter tires in time. When should it be done? As soon as the first cold weather came, that is, sub-zero temperatures (up to minus five) or even the first snow. If there is a minus for several days in a row, then the likelihood of ice rises, so driving on slippery roads is already scary. On the other hand, changing shoes to winter tires too early is fraught with the fact that the tires will wear out faster (rubbing against the dry surface of the roadway).
  • Secondly , to drive on winter roads, you need to be patient and follow some rules. Which include, for example, smooth and long braking. Even if your car is equipped with automatic transmission and all sorts of bells and whistles, including abs. Hard braking on slippery roads leads to skids. Think about what is more expensive for you: to be in time where you are in a hurry (and still risk not being able to be in time with such recklessness), or to act on the principle of “going slower, you will continue”. By the way, in winter, both a soft start at a traffic light and early braking at a turn are the key to safe movement.
  • Thirdly , do not harm your iron horse by pouring “better” quality liquids into it. The principle does not work here: "I will buy all the most expensive - I will not be mistaken, and the car will be grateful." In order for the pistons in the engine to serve longer, fill in the gasoline whose octane number corresponds to the type of engine. The same can be said about oil. The best is recommended by the car manufacturer, to understand if the oil is suitable, see the data indicated on the canister, compare with the manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Well , the last thing you should also pay attention to is the conditions in which your car is located during a break from driving. A capital garage is certainly good, but in winter, if the temperature inside the garage and outside varies greatly, then this factor plays, unfortunately, not in favor of the car: the corrosion process accelerates. Therefore, the best option for parking may not be in the open, but at least under a roof on the street. And while traveling, make sure that there is not a big difference between the temperature of the cabin and the weather outside the window - it will be better for you and for the car.
