Weight gain during pregnancy, calculator and table.

Today I decided to touch on the topic of weight gain during pregnancy , which I think worries or worries each of us while pregnant. How much weight do I take being with a belly? After all, the truth is that most girls care about their figure and I am no exception. To be honest, I was very concerned about this topic. Having become pregnant quite early by our standards (20 years old), I was keenly interested in the problem of extra pounds. Being skinny in life, I didn’t want to turn into a “boy-woman”, but you can’t order everything from your inner “want” (pregnant women or those who have already gone through this will understand). It seems to me that all pregnant women had a period of total gluttony. Thank God it did not last long for me. Therefore, today I decided to talk about weight gain during pregnancy.

This situation has two sides. Let's not forget that we are no longer alone, and a little man is growing inside us and we are already responsible for him, despite the fact that he has not yet been born. Therefore, in pursuit of the goal of maintaining a figure and starving, the child also on a “diet” receives what he needs for his further growth and development. Also, overweight and gluttony will not help your baby move forward. Therefore, everything needs a measure. And don't forget the golden rule: "We are what we eat!" I do not want to scare you, in any case, but I must warn you. And so I want to tell you in more detail what threatens starvation and gluttony to you and your unborn child.

So let's start with malnutrition.

Weight gain during pregnancy

If you don't eat enough and don't gain enough weight, you are at risk of giving birth to a small baby in the first place. According to neonatological indicators, newborns weighing less than 2.5 kilograms are considered weaker and more susceptible to disease. Naturally, your malnutrition can lead to many physical problems, such as dysfunction of the heart, brain, gastrointestinal tract, metabolic processes, and many other problems that you don't need anyway. For you, this can be fraught with a decrease in the amount of the hormone estrogen in your body, and there is a possibility of premature termination of pregnancy, that is, miscarriage.

Overeating every day is also not recommended for pregnant women . With a large weight gain, the risk of late toxicosis increases. Can you imagine hell will start again, like at the very beginning weight gain during pregnancy , eternal running to the toilet and back. It’s one thing you don’t have a stomach in the first trimester, you can go for a run, but if you have late toxicosis, you just have to roll). A lot of weight can bring you the so-called diabetes, not diabetes, but also an unpleasant thing. Naturally, it will be difficult for you yourself, with excess weight it is difficult to walk, sleep and not only.

Edema is one of the side effects of heavy weight, severe edema, which is an indication for a caesarean section. There are also possible problems with the heart, blood pressure, the risk of blood clots increases, which is very serious, the consequences can be the saddest. Basically, with a lot of weight, it is more difficult to give birth, since the child will most likely also be large and it will be difficult to give birth naturally and without breaks and consequences. Accordingly, the more weight you gain, the more difficult it is for you to throw it off. Therefore, before eating another bun, think about the health of your child and yours, and eat an apple. “Less calories and more benefits” should be the motto of your pregnancy menu.

And now let's talk all the same about the numbers, which, according to medical indicators, are the norm.

Naturally, your weight gain during pregnancy depends on your pre-pregnancy weight status. Although there is a very interesting fact, the lower your initial weight, the more you are at risk of gaining weight during pregnancy . How is this “normal” weight calculated? Everything is very simple, we divide our weight by our own height squared (height in meters) That is, my height is 1.68 m, and my weight is 52 kg, therefore 53÷ (1.68 × 1.68) = 18.5 is my body mass index.

Few numbers:

  • Less than 18.5 is underweight;
  • 18.5-25 Norm;
  • 25-30 overweight
  • over 30 obese

Pregnancy weight gain chart:

If you are underweight, you can gain from 13 to 19 kg. With the weight of the indicator "norm" from 11 to 17. With excess weight from 8 to 12 kg. If you are obese from 6 kg or less. If you have a multiple pregnancy from 16 to 21 kg, regardless of the initial weight.

How are kilograms distributed?

Calculations are approximate and are taken from indicators with a normal body mass index. Your baby weighs an average of 3 to 3.5 kg, the placenta or the so-called baby's place weighs from 500 to 800. Amniotic fluid is at least 1.5 kg and more, the uterus, do not forget that it stretches about 1 kg. Also in our body the amount of blood increases from 1.5 to 2 kg, the amount of water also increases by 2-2.5 kg. Naturally, in the body of a pregnant woman, additional fat deposits of 4-5 kg “in reserve” are deposited, as laid down by nature.

The very speed of weight gain is completely individual. Some month you can score, more in some less. Someone can "get fat" from the first day of pregnancy little by little, and someone sharply after the 20th week. This is completely normal. With a normal body mass index for the first trimester, you should gain approximately 1.5 kg. (800g for overweight, 2kg for underweight). During the second and third trimesters, you gain weight faster. Somewhere from 13 to 28 you should gain 350 g per week. In the last month, your weight may suddenly drop by 800 g-1 kg, do not be afraid, this is absolutely normal, your body is preparing for childbirth.

Proper nutrition

During pregnancy, try to adhere to the "Proper Nutrition" methodology, you can read more about it on the Internet. You don't need empty calories and trans fats right now. Eat tasty and healthy food, more fruits and vegetables, cereals. In no case do not give up meat, you can eat it in any form, choose non-fat varieties or just cut off the fat. You can cook it in any way, even fried, just blot the excess oil with a napkin. Eat milk - you need it, it is better if it is natural village products.

After consulting with your doctor, you can drink a course of any vitamin complexes, usually prescribed to everyone. In no case do not arrange fasting days and do not go on diets, reducing the number of calories can adversely affect the health of the child and yours as well. Try to drink at least 6 glasses of ordinary purified water, since amniotic fluid is renewed every 3 hours, of course, water must be taken from somewhere. Limit your intake of tea and coffee, as they are caffeinated, which puts extra strain on your already overworked heart.

In everything there should be only benefit. So don't worry about weight gain during pregnancy . Be healthy!
